12 Everyday Essentials For Women In College

The items on this list were necessary for my success in college! You can use everything here to encourage you and prepare for a seamless day at school!

Essentials include:

  1. Confidence! You worked so hard to get here, do not let anybody take away your moment of doing something for yourself. Confidence will also help you make better connections with your peers, professors and advisors. I read a daily devotional throughout college called “The Confident Woman Devotional”. I hope that it will affirm and reassure you as it did for me!

  2. Gratitude Journal. Studies show that practicing gratitude decreases anxiety and depression and improves sleep, mood and immunity. If you need further motivation, know that Oprah writes down 5 things she is grateful for everyday. When I found that out, I knew that practicing gratitude was a key to success and that I HAD to do it. I wrote in my journal in the morning before I got on social media or at night before I went to bed.

  3. Planner. A quote that is ingrained into my mind is “those who fail to plan, plan to fail”. Sis, we are not failing anything! We are making the greatest strides toward success. Use a planner to help you achieve your dreams. There are two different styles of planners that I like to use. Both styles helped maximize my productivity and I would alternate my planners every school year.

  4. Scheduled days. Having a schedule for when you will study and get work done is top tier in college! One of the best tips I ever got for scheduling was to write down everything I needed to accomplish for that day and schedule accordingly. This can be done by writing a to-do list and putting your most important deadlines at the top of the list, so you know that at the end of the day the things that you needed to get done, got done. Or, you can schedule your days by class work. For instance, Mondays are for statistics homework and studying only, Tuesdays are for law only, Wednesdays are for journalism only, etc. so that you do not get overwhelmed. Do what works best for you! The overall goal is to be productive and consistent, working toward your goals everyday!

  5. Backpack with compartments! The compartments ensure that everything you place in your backpack is easily accessible. I typically used an athleisure style backpack, they’re durable and super cute!

  6. Pencil pouch. Do not get caught slacking in class or in your studies! Make sure your pencil pouch includes:

  7. Folders, folders, folders. I used folders for class notes, readings, and miscellaneous papers. Using folders always made me feel organized and it eased my mind when studying.

  8. An essential bag small enough to fit in your backpack. The essential bag will be filled with lip balm, pain reliever, Listerine strips, flushable sensitive wipes, liners etc. (for those accidental, potentially panicking moments).

  9. Refillable water bottle. We are drinking our water and minding our business this school year! This is a key to success right here!! Hydrating and staying in our bag all year long!

  10. College Cookbook. You can use this college cookbook for meal planning or after a long day at school!

  11. Do you ever get cold in class or in the library? I know I did! So make sure to keep a light jacket or flannel in your school bag or around your waist to avoid those chilly temps.

  12. Last but not least, you do not want to get caught in the rain, use this umbrella to prevent that!

Get ready to be successful. You have what it takes. Your future isn’t ahead of you, it’s inside of you.. unlock your potential today!

The Kléi
