Stress comes in many forms and so do our ways of coping with it. Although we can’t control life’s stressors, we can control how we respond when stressful situations arise. A good goal for us to manage our stress load is to become more “stress resilient.” Being stress resilient means having the ability to adapt and cope with stress in a healthy way. It involves being able to acknowledge and bounce back from difficult situations, while actively choosing to reframe our mindset in a positive and constructive manner.
Here are 5 tips in becoming more stress resilient in our everyday lives:
1. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and being present in the moment, can help you stay grounded and calm in stressful situations.
2. Develop effective problem-solving skills: Instead of feeling overwhelmed by stressors, work on developing effective problem-solving skills to tackle issues one step at a time. This will allow you to maintain a sense of balance and well-being even in your most challenging circumstances.
3. Maintain a positive outlook: Try to reframe negative thoughts into more positive and realistic perspectives. Focus on gratitude, optimism, and finding silver linings in difficult situations.
4. Prioritize self-health: Be sure to take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Taking time for yourself allows you to truly put your best foot forward each day. Things like getting enough sleep, eating healthy, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring you joy all help in your ability to become more stress resilient.
5. Build a strong support system: Prioritize cultivating relationships with positive people who provide you with emotional support, perspective and insight. Whether that be with friends, family, and/or a therapist these people are the ones who ultimately become your backbone during challenging times.
Here’s to controlling what we can control and adapting new ways to become stress resilient!
