4 Ways to Persevere

Perseverance is the ability to achieve success despite failure, obstacles and setbacks. Below are 4 ways to persevere.

Embrace failure.

For two reasons:

  1. Embrace failure so that failure doesn’t consume you and leave you feeling “stuck”. Richard Branson, a British business magnate with a net worth of $2.5 billion (you may know him from Virgin Atlantic/Group) says, “Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.” It’s good to remember that if you are starting over or starting something new, that you are not starting from scratch - you are starting from wisdom and experience.

  2. Embrace failure so that you can win. The best of the best have failed. Michael Jordan says, “ to learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail”. People in business would say to “fail fast and fail forward”. Failure is inevitable - how you choose to respond to failure is what determines your success.

Stick to a schedule.

When scheduling your days - make sure to include everything you have to do. List to-do items, write down deadlines and then prioritize tasks. Stay flexible and open minded to change when necessary and always incorporate breaks. You got this!

Get the right people around you.

You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. I wouldn’t even know about perseverance if I hadn’t heard about it and saw it through close relatives and friends. Really think about this - it can be life changing. Are you persevering or are you settling?

Repeat.

If you work the plan, the plan will work for you!

Quotes on Perseverance:

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.” - Newt Gingrich

“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” - Proverbs 27:17

“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.” - Julie Andrews

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” - James 1:2-4

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” - James 1:12

“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.” - Galatians 6:9

“You will win if you don’t quit.” - Les Brown
