Honoring Obedience

In a world that celebrates independence and self-reliance, the idea of obedience can often feel countercultural or even restrictive. But when it comes to our relationship with God, obedience is not about limitation—it’s about alignment. Obeying God allows us to align our hearts with His perfect will and walk the path He has lovingly prepared for us.
This year, I’ve been praying intentionally for alignment with God’s will. Through my journey, I’ve learned firsthand how obedience and alignment go hand in hand. It hasn’t been easy—I’ve faced moments of discomfort and fear—but I’ve remained steadfast, trusting that God’s plan and purpose far exceed anything I could ever ask, think, or imagine. Along the way, I’ve discovered invaluable lessons about obedience, including the profound truth that: even when it feels difficult, every step of obedience draws us closer to the heart of God and leads us to a life filled with His peace and purpose. So, if you’re working on obedience this year too, remember:
Obedience Reflects Our Love for God
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Obedience is not rooted in fear or obligation; it’s an expression of love, trust, and reverence. When we choose to obey, we acknowledge God’s infinite wisdom and express gratitude for His grace. This act of faith deepens our relationship with Him, reminding us of His unfailing promises.
Obedience Brings Blessings
The Bible repeatedly connects obedience with blessings. In Deuteronomy 28, God promises peace, provision, and protection to those who follow His commands. While obedience doesn’t eliminate life’s challenges, it ensures we remain under His guidance and care, giving us strength and assurance through every trial.
Obedience Reveals Divine Purpose
God’s plans for us are far greater than we can comprehend (Jeremiah 29:11). To step into His purpose, we must be willing to surrender our plans for His. This often requires trusting Him, even when we don’t fully understand the path ahead. Abraham’s story is a powerful example—his willingness to leave behind the familiar and follow God’s direction (Genesis 12) demonstrates how obedience paves the way for God’s extraordinary plans to unfold.
Obedience is not a one-time choice but a continual journey, where each step requires us to surrender more of ourselves to His perfect plan. I’ve learned that it’s easy to hold onto what feels familiar, but true alignment with God requires letting go of the things that don’t serve His purpose. Along the way, I’ve had to confront my own habits, ideas, and desires that often stand in contrast to God’s will. -When we surrender to His will, trusting that His ways are higher, we experience His transformative power and the purpose He has for us.
So, as you walk your own journey of obedience, remember that this process is not just about following rules—it’s about stepping into a relationship with God that refines and shapes us, helping us become more like Christ every day.
Here’s to obedience and alignment! You’ve got this!
